If you are worried that the victim may have COVID-19 or any other transmissible pathogens, do not give mouth-to-mouth breathing. You can perform Hands-Only CPR (also known as Continuous Chest Compression CPR). Push hard and fast on the center of the chest at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.

OPEN THE AIRWAY

Check the victim for a blocked airway. If there is an obstruction in the victim's airway, you may need to remove it. This could be food, liquid, or other objects.

Tilt the victim's head back and lift the chin up slightly. This procedure moves the tongue away from the back of the throat and opens the airway.

Be sure to use a rescue mask or face shield that has a one way valve to limit your exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

BREATHING

With the airway open using the head-tilt, chin-lift technique, pinch the nostrils shut for mouth-to-mouth breathing. Cover the victim's mouth with yours, making a seal.

Give two rescue breaths to the victim. Each rescue breath should supply the victim with same amount of air as when you are breathing normally. Take care not to over-inflate the victim's lungs.

For an infant, give two quick puffs of air from your cheeks, not your lungs.
