CONTINUING CPR

For an adult victim: Immediately following the 2 rescue breaths, perform 30 rapid chest compressions. Each chest compression should be done with both hands and compress at least 2 inches but no more than 2.4 inches of the chest.

For a child victim: Immediately following the 2 rescue breaths, perform 30 rapid chest compressions. Each chest compression should be done with one or two hands and compress approximately 2 inches of the chest.

For an infant victim: Immediately following the 2 rescue breaths, perform 30 rapid chest compressions. Chest compressions on an infant should be done with 2 fingers and compress approximately 1.5 inches of the chest.

Repeat the cycle of 2 rescue breaths and 30 rapid chest compressions until EMS personnel arrive. If a second person is available and able, switch positions after every 5 cycles of compressions and breathing.

If the victim begins to breathe on his or her own, stop CPR and roll the victim on to his or her side. This is to prevent the victim from choking on vomit or any objects that may be in his or her mouth.
