CALL 9-1-1

If you are alone with the victim and you have determined the victim needs help and it is safe for you to give care, remember these guidelines:

• For adult victims: Call 9-1-1 (or your local emergency number) first.
• For infants and children: Begin CPR first and continue for 2 minutes before dialing 9-1-1.
• If the victim is not breathing due to respiratory failure or drowning, begin CPR first before dialing 9-1-1.
• If an AED is available, attach and use the AED as soon as possible.

If there is another person with you and the victim, instruct the other person to dial 9-1-1 immediately and retrieve the AED as you prepare to begin CPR.

Give the 9-1-1 personnel the victim's exact location, what happened, how many people are injured, and what is being done.
